What OS is on your development box?

I think its about time MS comes up with Windows Developer version of their OS.

Windows XP is not a development platform because it does not "closely" resemble the production boxes. If we are running W2003K server and developing on XP you can't truly have accurate testing environment.

My standard requirement is that all developers run W2003K servers on their boxes.

Am I alone one this one?

I think they're getting closer to this with the release of Vista, you get the full version of IIS 7 so at least you know there's no differences there.

However, it would be nice if there was a direct effort by MS to supply a developer OS. The issue that comes up is how do they provide an OS that mirrors the production version, without providing something that could be used in place of the production version. Do you limit memory? CPU?

Vista does allow multiple web sites on IIS 7 which XP did not allow.
I am about to test installing "server" software, that is software that looks to see if its running on the server.
I don’t think there should be limits on memory or CPU. Its a development box and it should be treated differently.
Also, I would like to have full blown AD on my dev box when I have to test software that requires Windows Integrated security. I know of ADAM but that is not sufficient if you want to extend AD object model...
